It's Mahogany. I was going to say perhaps it was just stripped. The finish outside is either gone, really thin, or maybe just heavily faded, but refinished seems most likely.

Its the earlier cabinet with the needle drawer. :D

I wish the photographs were clearer or you could zoom up. - it may be refinished but its so dull I'm almost wondering if its a very fine alligatoring that you often find on many 19th century mahogany pieces :?:

Hard to tell, but I'd say no. Looking at the third photo (L-doors open) shows the contrast in surface and finish color typical of a strip job. Also compare the (crank) side and lid in photo four.
