Can anyone tell me what the thread size is for the Victrola XII? The crank and winding shaft are both damaged and I can't tell if it is ¼-20 or ¼-28. Any help is appreciated.

Sorry Dave, I'm trying to work out how I can find out for you. I don't think I have those nut and screw sizes in my hardware drawers
to test on the machine, but I'll double check when I get home tonight.

Hi Vince,
I assume you are just going to try threading it on a bolt. That is what I usually do, but there are only 2 threads left on the winding shaft and the crank threads are buggered up too.

I have a 1909 L-Door I can check... just need to dig-out my thread-pitch gauges...
I cannot speak for the "winding-key", but some of their other machine screws are unique pitches... ( thinking the big nickel-plated truss-head screws that secure the motor-board on Teens-vintage Victrolas... )

Dave, I am petty sure that it is a ¼ X 24. A local machine shop told me that it was a common pitch from years gone bye. My tap says ¼ X 24 NS. I think the NS means "National Standard" Taps and dies were available for $12 each plus shipping and handling from a machine shop I tried the tap in the crank on my VV-XII and it fits perfectly Jack

Re: Victrola 12 (XII) crank thread pitch needed
Thank you. Victor did use ¼-28 on some applications. I think the back bracket screws were that size. I suppose that either one would work for the new winding shaft and to rethread the damaged crank, but I wanted to make sure I was doing as it was originally. I appreciate your help. I have both sizes of taps in my shop, but thanks for the cost information anyway.
