How to straighten a bent COlumbia floating rep. bezel?

Post by john9ten »

Hello all

I just got an amazing looking COlumbia AT, but the reproducer bezel won't screw in all the way, it stops and gets hard to turn. The bezel apeard sto be bent or warped. Anyone got a spare or some parts for sale??

The photos indicate the maximum that the bezel will go into the housing.

Thanks!

I suspect that the locking ring is not being started straight so its getting crossed threaded. These can be tricky to get started straight especially if it has been cross threaded in the passed. To check to see if the ring is actually bent lay it on a piece of glass or flat surface to check for flatness. If it is bent it should be simple to straighten out and use.

Best Regards, Larry

I second Larry's opinion: these Columbia bezels can often be hard to get started without crossing the threads.

One has to try distributing pressure evenly while turning them, to get them to go down straight...

Also try rotating the bezel backwards until you feel or hear a click, then go forwards.

I suggest to first try to clean/straighten the threads running a "fat dentist pick" like this one: http://fcsurplus.com/science/images/640474.gif

Do it backwards from the bottom to the lip. Most of the times it will straighten the crossed threads and remove the grit that its preventing it to engage correctly.

Pedro
