Should I?

Post by Victrolaboy »

There is an Edison maroon GEM listed on eBay for $350 but it's missing the entire motor and reproducer and it also doesn't have a horn. So is it worth it even with all of the missing parts? I would say no but what do you guys think? http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... 0781863105

hello,
There is not even $100 dollars in good usable parts. Lots of paint damage, base board is broken, no gear cover. I would pass on this one. Better to pay more for something complete and nicer!

Of all the Edison models, the Gem is the most difficult to build from parts. There is a great deal of variation in the Gem A series. You can buy an incomplete Standard or Home and stand a reasonable chance of finding missing parts. Jerry

Jerry's right. It will cost more in parts to complete this machine than one in original condition. Be patient, and save your money. A decent one will eventually come up.

Have to agree with the others.
The Maroon Gem D & E are pretty unique machines. Even the lids are not interchangeable with other model Gems. Save your money for something more complete.

I want to add my agreement with the other recent posts. Save your money for the upcoming phonograph show.
