Although - unlike the clip I linked to - these American Epic things would probably be electrical (microphone) recordings rather than acoustic.

Weight driven lathes were found in some recording studios for many years, even into the 1950's.

Weight driven lathes were found in some recording studios for many years, even into the 1950's.
And here I first learned about 'em just last week! Embarrassed to admit it, I am, but there's always room for info! Nobody tells me anything...
