Edison Triumph "D" Repeater
Much as I like my records, I don't necessarily want an encore every time ... so... can one NOT use the D repeater? I can't see how to disengage it .

Sure - simply loosen the screws that hold the additional arm on the carriage. Elevate that arm about a half-inch (or simply remove it entirely), and voila! It won't work anymore.
You may also loosen the two screws that hold the repeater casting to the machine's upper casting, and move the repeater slightly forward (toward the front of the machine). This will disengage the pulley gear and stop the return screw. This second procedure will depend upon where the holes were drilled. If it's a factory job, it should work, but if it's a retrofit, there may not be enough wiggle-room.

Suggestion "B" worked! Thanks! It didn't stop the once-around thump, though - but it narrows down the source.

Re: Edison Triumph "D" Repeater
I had a Triumph that thumped also. It turned out to be a gunked up spring that didn't unwind evenly.

This is the same speed as the cylinder, so can't be the spring. I think it's something minor

I know the rhythmic thump you mean. It's the 2/4 minute attachment needing a bit of adjustment. You're right - nothing serious.

Re: Edison Triumph "D" Repeater
Moved the whole shaft/mandrel assembly to the right a tad, and noise went away ! The extra gear (on the pulley) which runs the repeater was rubbing against the left stanchion.

You shouldn't have to disconnect anything. The collar on the right end of the spiral shaft is meant to be adjustable. Moving it to the right or left aligns it with the end of the record to determine when the carriage will lift & repeat. Just loosen the collar and slide it all the way to the right. Most records should end long before the repeater is tripped and will give you time to shut off the machine.

Re: Edison Triumph "D" Repeater
It was already fully to the right, but still cut off the end of many records which wouldn't fit as far onto the mandrel as a standard wax record (most of my 2mins are celluloid) ...
