Victor Credenza - How long a play per full wind up?

Post by Sartana »

I am curious, how much time should one get from a fully wound Victor Credenza machine? I seem to be getting around 12-15 minutes. I thought I read somewhere that 20 minutes can be expected. Thanks for any info!

I'll have to time them to see, but my 8-30 and Credenza will comfortably take 100 winds, when completely wound down.

I get about three 10" records out of one winding, if I let it go that far. Normally I'll just give it a dozen or so cranks between records. Like Gene's, my Credenza will take about a hundred winds when fully wound down, which it seldom is. So you seem to be in the right ballpark.

If the motor has been cleaned ( springs & barrels cleaned and re-lubed ), lubed and adjusted, I think you can expect 18-20 minutes playing time.

If it is gunked-up with 80 year-old grease and oil, then expect somewhat less.

Once rebuilt I've timed my 4 spring motors and I do get 20 minutes out of them as proported by VTM Co.
As mentioned in the above response that is with the motor and springs cleaned and re packed.
I am always suprised with a 4 spring motor how much power exists even when almost wound down while playing a very clean record with little friction or resistance. With the cleaned motor just as a record pitch starts to fade I've grabbed the crank to wind and find hardly any resistance and amazed that it still spinning so well.
