How do I disassemble Silvertone Reproducer?

Post by phono-farm »

I just found this Silvertone Phonograph. It runs good but the reproducer gaskets are hard and cracked. It isn't obvious how the reproducer comes apart - it looks like the metal ring on the front of it has to come out. Is it pressed in , or screwed in? I tried turning it counter-clockwise with my fingers but it doesn't seem to turn and I don't want to turn so hard that something breaks. Can anyone tell me exactly how to do this?

Thanks,
Greg Farmer

The ring is threaded and because of the pot metal swelling they can get stuck. The first thing to try is to put it in the freezer for a while- it causes the metal to contract & this can loosen the ring.

Nice attractive machine- and good to have the vertical cut fitting

Greg,
If you don't mind sacrificing the diaphragm, it can be cut out and then the hardened gaskets removed. This will take the pressure off the ring and it may unscrew easier.
