Back in this Zonophone's history a previous owner replaced the original mechanics with a wood base board, and a more modern motor. Luckily most of the other hardware is present, including horn in its own basket.
Obviously I would like to take it back to how it should be , and would very much like to find a motor + turntable. It takes the very large Zonophone Grand Opera Motor. This is a German Zonophone version, model "Zonophon Grand Opera Luxus"
Why do you believe it is a "Grand Opera Luxus"? The metal inlays on the case look different from the catalogue drawing. Is it a Zonophone at all? What is the size of the case?
I know of 1 in a French museum, and believe there is another in a German or Belgian collection. They were expensive and only for 1 season apparently. 1901/1902. In one of my boxes with ads - the particular one I do not find at the moment - it was referred to with the model number 120. In this ad, not.
The drawing from your daughter is lovely I would frame it. She seems to be very impressed by the beautiful machine.
Thank you very much for the ad! I completely forgot about this model. It was first(?) shown in the Phonographische Zeitschrift of 5 November 1902. This is the only ad I could find. It is identical with yours. The accompanying text ("Zonophon-Herbst-Katalog") suggests that it was introduced in autumn 1902. It would be very helpful if you can locate an ad which proves the designation "Grand Opera Luxus No. 120". In the ad of November 1902, see below, it is not listed as such. The "Grand-Opera-Luxus-Zonophon No. 110" with different case was first(?) shown in an ad of 19 August 1903 and was still offered in the catalog of September 1905. Perhaps it replaced the earlier model which would explain its rarity.
