I have 9 hard to find early brown wax cylinder record slips. See pics below. Please make a fair offer on the group if interested. PayPal, money order, check is fine. USPS Media Mail is extra but will be very reasonable.
Thanks,
Doug

hey rich,
out of curiosity, why not? I've been using media to send record albums/folders and the like.

I presumed these were appropriate under printed music / sound recordings since these slips originally accompanied the sound recordings (cylinders) which are appropriate for Media Mail. I have no issue with shipping these First Class which is quicker and not much more costly anyway since these would be well under 13 ounces. Obviously I'm trying to help the buyer with shipping cost while still being compliant with USPS.rgordon939 wrote:Just for information, these can not be mailed by Media Mail.

I thought Media qualified as "printed matter for reading", which these certainly are. I recently took a couple of Media items to the PO and depending on where it was going, the rate was actually less for First Class, just fyi.
As for Brian's comment about albums, a few years ago, my two local POs would not ship them media because they are not recorded media or printed media. I solved that problem easily enough. Go to the junk records shelf in the basement and put one in each album - now they're Media Mail qualified.

Excellent comments, Sean. And the junk records idea makes perfect sense. I had never thought about that! Believe me, I have some of those in the basement!OrthoSean wrote:I thought Media qualified as "printed matter for reading", which these certainly are. When in doubt, go to the source:
http://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/173.htm
See section 4.1, Qualified Items. Under point "e" it says (italics mine):
"Sound recordings, including incidental announcements of recordings and guides or scripts prepared solely for use with such recordings. Video recordings and player piano rolls are classified as sound recordings"
I would consider these to be guides prepared solely for use with sound recordings, but since the original recordings are not present, this is ambiguous.
Nonetheless, First Class would be cheaper

Re: FOR SALE: 9 Early Original Brown Wax Cylinder Slips -Inq
Thus is what the USPS defines as Media Mail.
Books (at least 8 pages).
Sound recordings and video recordings, such as CDs and DVDs.
Play scripts and manuscripts for books, periodicals, and music.
Printed music.
Computer-readable media containing prerecorded information and guides or scripts prepared solely for use with such media.
Sixteen millimeter or narrower width films.
Printed objective test materials and their accessories.
Printed educational reference charts.
Loose-leaf pages and their binders consisting of medical information for distribution to doctors, hospitals, medical schools, and medical students.
The cylinders slips do not meet these criteria. If it was in with a cylinder then it would be ok. Records, albums, or recordings do meet the criteria.
Hope this helped.
