Surprising audio comparisons with MicaMonster's belting 2

Post by barnettrp21122 »

I continue to be impressed with MicaMonster's belting he's been offering.
I replaced a stock leather replacement with one of his on my Amberola X. (early type with Gem-style motor)
The sound before replacement wasn't bad, but as I expected there was an improvement with the MicaMonster belting.
There was a small amount of flutter with the stock belt, and very little if any with the MM belting.

I've added some short piano and string excerpts below demonstrating the difference. See if you can hear it.
A good speaker setup will make this more apparent:

I believe the improvement is due to several factors-the material is thinner, more supple, and doesn't have as hard a finish.

It's nice to get a humble Amberola X sounding so good!
Enjoy your weekend.
Bob

I agree. My Graphophone type AT plays like a champ now with MicaMonster's belting! :)

They're all quite good for a Gem X - mine is almost as loud as the records! But yes, I think I hear the difference; the suede-y back of MM's new belting must have more gripping power on the pulleys.
