Re: Fran and George go to the Edison Site
I have since had a serving of crow. Some contemporary references have turned up that do indeed refer to 'military phonograph' so it appears that I was wrong about that point. (Wait? What? That's not possible! I've only been wrong one other time in my life, and that was when I thought I had made a mistake....)

To err is human...I certainly hope we don't have anyone here that knows everything. That would really take the fun out of it for the rest of us.

Makes one wonder if it was a cement cabinet, with a painted, grained finish. Are there any cement items on display? The model cement house or the beautiful cement cylinder phono would be fantastic to see in person.fran604g wrote:
There was also a Chippendale Upright there that captivated George and I. It had a woodgrain that was really interesting and we couldn't for the life of us figure out exactly what it was. It resembled a "normal" oak type grain, but the grain was HUGE. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a good photo of it because of its location.![]()

I raised the possibility of a cement cabinet while we were there, but I'm pretty sure that by the time of the C-250's introduction, the cement phonograph cabinets had been shelved. I've also read a number of times that there are no cement cabinets at West Orange. I'd surely like to see that cabinet close up.
The model of the cement house is still in Edison's library (which Fran has inexplicably not pictured!).

I thought I had taken a photo of that, too!
But, alas, I am not finding one...

I have a few that I took with my phone, they're not great, but here they are:

It's funny; now that the rush of seeing all that I did there and at the show is over, I seem to increasingly remember more what I didn't take pictures of.phonogfp wrote:That's the ticket!![]()
