my latest ebay find
Truly surprised, I found a Victor Victrola vv-80 in oak on eBay for $30! After a light lubrication, it plays great. It has a couple of veneer chips and is missing one knob. It even came with 3 Hit of the Week records! Had to pick it up in the Northwest burbs of Chicago, which gave my wife and I a chance to grab a real Italian beef sandwich (hard to find good ethnic food in Peoria). This was a win-win.

Over the past twenty-five years, I've come across many VV-80s in mahogany, but none in oak.
Congratulations!

Thanks. This is the first VV-80 I have owned. Fairly nice machine for a low end Victor.

Great looking machine in oak. With that huge horn opening, it should sound good and loud (i.e., both loud as well as good
)

With the large horn and Victrola No. 2 reproducer, it has a good solid tone.

Nice machine. You can't beat that for $30.00. Is this your first machine? If so, it will be a special one.

Re: my latest ebay find
No, not my first machine. I have been tinkering with phonographs for the last 40 years (started when I was 10). I have never really become a collector. As my wife says, I like to rescue machines and find them good homes. I also like a bargain (how could I pass this one for $30.00?). I always like to see what you fellows have found out in phono-land and it is good to know that deals still exist in this day and age. Mike

Great find, and great bargain ! Golden Oak is kind of rare with the later machines.
Enjoy !
