I have used the new glass diaphragms in my 1890's recorder, and my automatic reproducer, and am very happy. I wish though that some thinner sizes a 6 and 5 thousandths would be nice, and even a 2 thousandths for violin, and acoustic guitar, in the 1890's size 5-9 were available for recording, in half thousandths increments. The glass works well in later recorders too.

This is my first glass diaphragm, as I have Model C's on all of my Phonographs. I can't wait to hear the difference.

Thanks for all the information! I'm fascinated with the Historical implications of the glass manufacturing. The French and British were ahead of the US in producing the high quality glass up to the first decade of the 20th century. Indeed, they were world leaders until the end of the 19th century.

In regards to your desire for thinner glass, I wonder if any small, local, optics manufacturers could grind some inexpensively?

I just recieved the one I bought. It is beautifully done. Of course, the first thing I had to do is take it apart.

All of the parts are very nicely machined and finished, I couldn't find ANY blemishes or defects.

It looks very nice on my Standard A "suitcase".

just got one to play all the recordings im doing. works great. dremel'd a notch since I didn't buy the B model I should have. Sounds great and will save my recordings from my C reproducer!

I bought one about six weeks ago, then bought an automatic recorder from Justin (an original one) about a month ago with almost the same serial number. Between the two of these I have become very proficient in brown wax recording. The reproducer plays my prerecorded brown wax cylinders as well as I ever could have hoped. I highly recommend these excellent reproductions.

I also intended to buy Justin's table top horn stand but was so excited with the recorder that I completely forgot about the stand. Now another trip to visit him or, perhaps via eBay.

Thanks everyone for all the very helpful technical information and reviews. I had been eyeing these remanufactured Automatic Reproducers for some time with interest, but hearing all these first hand reports convinced me to go ahead and order one. What a great resource the TMF community is for all of us!
