Last night I got to see the new movie "Tomorrowland" at a preview screening.
I won't spoil it for you, but I will tell you this...
When the robots find George Clooney and his sidekick, and they must quickly flee or be destroyed, he makes extra sure to grab the "Edison Tube" - a black wax cylinder in its gold molded box - before they make their escape. Then, after a violent and rapid trip to Paris, they use the record (yes, it's "La Marseillaise") and a little outside horn phonograph to trigger a whole wild [crap]-ton of fantastical events involving the Eiffel Tower (and more robots).
It's really great that the record is able to survive all the hurly-burly, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance and all.
Apparently Edison and Tesla (and Eiffel, and others) were up to much more than we'd known up to now, and I'm glad Disney has finally been able to reveal this. I bet the French will be pretty pissed off though, but aren't they usually, anyway?
It's kind of a kids movie but it moves fast and there are few logical flaws or boring spots. Look at the previews and go check it out if it looks like fun.

There's a lot to be said for sturdy celluloid cylinders when you are trying to escape murderous robots. I'm just saying...

All the more impressive that George used a wax cylinder, protected only by its original box. They are transported from upstate New York to Paris in some crazy phase shifty transporter doo-dad which beats the tar out of them, but the record is unscathed through it all...ready to once again Echo All Over The World.

It's funny how Clooney stares at a "nixie" tube clock while he waits at home (or laboratory or whatever it is). There seems to be a nice touch of *vintage* cutting-edge technology throughout the movie, as if someone from this forum had been hired as a tech consultant.PeterF wrote:Look at the previews and go check it out if it looks like fun.
Is it worth seeing all in all, or would one regret the bucks for the ticket?

I was entertained. If you have a kid with whom to go, all the better.
