Stopped at a garage sale today and there was a walnut finished regular doors VV-XVI cabinet with some parts scattered here and there. It is in desperate need of a total refinish job as it has been sitting on their front porch for a couple years, the lid has severe flaking of the veneer, there is no access panel on the back, no horn, no crank, no reproducer, but the tone arm, turntable, and 4 spring motor are present. Price tag was $275, she offered it to me for $100, I countered $50. The inside of the lid is beautiful, the motor board and surrounding wood is terrible.
I left her my card, told her to call if she decides to sell it for $50. I'm thinking she might. Hate to see it rotting away on her front porch.

Cliff, Walnut VV XVIs are not very common. Check to see if the record compartments are still intact. if they are, and only the back access is missing, I would go for it. If she turns down your offer, then offer them say $75.00. Even $100.00 is not a bad price for an almost complete machine in Walnut with cosmetic issues. Is this an early VXI with regular doors or a late one? The early one has a female crank that is forward on the cabinet. If this is an early one. I would pay $100.00 in a heartbeat.

It is the later one with the common 4 spring motor, crank nearer the back. The ID plate is missing, so no serial number available. In the record storage unit, there is only a single shelf across the middle, doesn't look original. It comes with a fat tone arm, not attached, but in a box of parts. I'm inclined to think it was at one time converted to some other purpose and when these folks inherited it, they tried to get all the pieces they could find back together for it. Apparently, the motor and motor board spent a lot of time outside the turntable compartment, the veneer is in pretty bad condition. Also, the brake assembly is missing, the speed adjust needle and window parts are gone. I might go back tomorrow and take pictures. Didn't have my phone/camera with me yesterday when I looked at it.Phonofreak wrote:Cliff, Walnut VV XVIs are not very common.
