What's missing from this Columbia portable.

Post by rizbone »

Does anyone know what is missing from this Columbia portable where the yellow circle is? I have the tonearm and reproducer removed (fighting the pot metal fight) but something else screwed onto the top board behind the turntable.

There should be a nickeled escutcheon in that location to insert the crank when not in use.

Here is a pic of the missing part that goes where you have circled.

Thanks. I had assumed the crank went in the smaller compartment of the drawer.

OK rizbone, your welcome.

My machine is covered in black fabric inside and out, but our machines are the same. Your portable is much nicer looking with the upscale mahogany finish. I had to free a frozen tone arm and reproducer also . An unusual set up with the horn and tone arm in the lid right ? Works well though.

I got the tone arm free, now I just need to find the missing part. Not easy as I don't think I've ever seen two Columbia portables that match. At least it's not missing something essential.

rizbone,
There is a Columbia 140 portable like mine on Ebay now, however I'm not sure if you would want to have to buy an entire machine for that one small part. It is the same black fabric covered one that I pictured for you. I think the opening bid is $50 but not sure.
