Your Victor V outfit looks very nice. Yesterday I had a newer collector friend call and ask my opinion. I told him I thought the whole outfit looked very nice but generally the large smooth horn is found on the Victor School Machine and not a Victor V. Could you take additional photos of the horn, elbow, and additional adaptor (if there is one)? You photos indicate a later style back bracket so it must be a late Victor V. Can other Forum members comment. Were smooth horns available on later Victor V's?

Thanks, Jerry Blais

This discussion is very relevant I think.

Yes in the end Victor did offer them with smooth horns.

I might keep this beast.

A question: What is the white ring on the inside of the horn? Is that a reflection of some sort?

This machine looks like the horn doesn't belong. I think the horn might be to a Late School House machine. I like the set up though.

It looks like a nice example but I would suggest to help facilitate the sale you'd need better, clearer pictures of the details, the configuration of the small end of the horn, the crank, the motor the top of the deck in order to assess what's being offered.

It could be all correct but it could also be that a Schoolhouse horn has been adapted to fit into a standard elbow. There are several here who know Victor better than I so hopefully they will see the thread and comment. :monkey:

I too have seen some very late Victor horn machines and some with smooth horns but they have many Victrola influenced features. The mechanisms were borrowed from Victrolas so they have speed controls, brakes, tone arms, cranks, and even motors borrowed from Victrolas. I checked with Baumbach's "Victor Data Book" and found that the Victor V (including the Victor D) were manufactured and sold from 1903 with one final machine leaving the factory inventory on 1928. From 1914 to 1928 annual sales dropped to three figures or less. Only 5.5% of all Victor V's were sold during this entire fifteen year period. The back bracket on your machine is the later type where the elbow slides into the bracket. The pictures in the Data book indicate that bracket was found on the Victor V type C machine. The serial numbers of the type C range from 57601 to 58862. What is the serial number of your machine? Does your machine have Victrola type features? Thanks, Jerry Blais

The " ring" is camera flash.

It does seem later victors did have smooth horns- http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... 9&start=10

Could you elaborate on " other victor features".It does have a Victor Exhibition Reproducer.

The horn is clearly a Victor Product.

The serial number is 55218

The elbow does not slide in with this horn it is inserted. ( is this what you mean by slide?)

I am debating whether to let this one go. The two year old likes it
