Anyone interested??? Lowered price- $250.
I am helping an older gentleman, "Buddy", sell this Credenza. The machine is located in Luray, VA (about 100 miles from where I live). I will describe it in detail and attach pictures.
The electric motor runs great--smooth and quiet. The cabinet has beautiful grain, especially inside the lid. It plays well. The reproducer front housing has a couple cracks, but the back piece is quite nice and the diaphragm is intact-- It sounds pretty good as it is.
The finish is dry, but the veneer is all intact and I saw no bubbles or peeling. It is missing the bun feet (has wheels!) and has a crack along the left edge of the lid that should close up with a bar clamp. The grill is in good shape-- At some point in it's life someone added three horizontal pieces of molding that closely resemble the wood of the grill-- Why?-- Who knows. They are somewhat loose but I didn't try to pull them off for fear of tearing the grill cloth. Grill cloth is in nice condition. Also-- The small trim piece near the top of the left side is missing (see pics). It is also missing the original knobs.
The screws that attach the tonearm base were missing. At some point someone used three wood screws to attach the arm, which put extra holes in the top board. It appears that all but one of the holes will be covered when the arm is attached correctly. I dug through the gentleman's junk draw and found one screw that allowed me to attach the arm to test it out. As mentioned--Motor runs fine, is quiet and the machine plays OK.
I'm happy to answer questions, but as I said I'm 100 miles from the machine so I can only answer from memory.
Buddy is in his upper 80's and loves to "tinker". He works on radios and converts old sewing machine frames into farm tractors--Ford, John Deere, Allis Calmers, etc-- and sells them at a flea market-- Fascinating man. He isn't a phonograph person and doesn't really have an outlet to sell the Credenza, so I thought I'd post it here and see what interest there may be. I've known him for about 15 years-- One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
The machine would need to be picked up in Luray, VA-- just east of Virginia's Shenandoah Valley (I-81)-- Luray is a beautiful, historical town and is home to Luray Caverns and Car Museum (recently "picked" on American Pickers!)-- Well worth the trip.
Let me know if there are any questions. This is a very restorable machine. I would love to help Buddy sell it.
Thanks-
Brad Abell
