Hi
I am looking at buying a 103 Hexaphone, I was wondering how much are they worth? I saw a 104 sell Breker Auctions in Germany for €7000.00
I am guessing this is a reasonable price? any info is appreciated.
Thanks Marcel

Re: Hexaphone 103 value?
I just bought my Hexaphone 103 few months back. They are just a great machine and I love playing mine. In today's market I've seen them range between $8,000 and $12,000 depending on the seller.

Hi Rich
Thanks for the reply. I recently bought a Rosenfield Class E and a Rosenfield AZ, I thought the Hexaphone would go nice with them.
Cheers Marcel

Marcel,
I am sure that everyone here would love to see pictures of the two Rosenfield machines you have.

Marcel, you've bought marvelous machines. I think the threesome would look great together. When you can I love to see a picture of the three. Here is a picture of my Hexaphone 103.

7600.00 US is a deal for a 104. It is the rarest of the Hexaphones.saxymojo wrote:Hi

Re: Hexaphone 103 value?
A "deal" at an auction is only a deal when you get it home and see what you've got. To have bought that Hexaphone at Breker, you'd have to go to at least 7500 Euros ($8250), IF the other bidder dropped out at that point. Then add over 25% for the auctioneer and VAT. Now you're at $10,300. Then arrange to get it crated and shipped to the U.S., another $1,000 + or -, and pay a customs broker to clear it and arrange delivery (another $500 or so). At this point you're up to $11,000 and maybe, just maybe, you have a decent machine. I know other folks who went to that auction and they told me there was a lot of hyped-up junk there (and they didn't bid on the Hex, what does that tell you). It's easy to spend another $2k or more to straighten out a Hexaphone.
My point being that interpolating auction results into market values is kinda like predicting the weather based on yesterday's Dow Jones Index - there's not much linkage.

Re: Hexaphone 103 value?
I took part in the Breker auction over the internet. Concerning the Hexaphone, winning bid 7000 EUR, judge for yourself and see it working: https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/36 ... aph-c-1915
Few phonographs were successful, several items went cheap, two Lioret dolls didn't sell. Musical automatons did much better that day. This was my second highlight of the auction, scroll down for the film: https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/36 ... roullet-et

Re: Hexaphone 103 value?
In the video, I do hear and see the Hexaphone in mid-operation. Unless I'm missing something here, the video does not show the coin-op functioning, nor the end-of-play reset, both vital elements.
In any event, I was not putting down this particular Hexaphone, nor it's potential as a good value to the purchaser. My point was that auction prices are often irrelevant to market values.

Re: Hexaphone 103 value?
Hi
Thanks for all the replies. When I get my 103 I will post pictures of them alltogether. I also have three Wurlitzers, 412, 1015 and a 1080A I would like to put them all in one room.
I have bought from the Breker Auctions in the past, they usually get top dollar. Raphael is right, if I had bid on this one it would have been expensive to get to Australia, considering at the level the bids go up by €1000.00 for each bid.
Cheers Marcel
