There is a Vanophone on Ebay. The last bid was over $ 400.00
What do you guys think....its out of my league, but why so much?

I think the reason the price is so high is because metal bodied phonographs from the WW1 era are rare because most of them were scrapped.

they're certainly not the most common phonograph, but I too have seen them selling for a good deal less than that. some sellers, it seems, just have that... "magic touch"... with auctions that attract far more bidders and money than the norm. I'm thinking of a few in ohio and north carolina in particular.

There are a fair amount of them out there- I think its because they look rather "Steampunk" with all that metal, and also pure happenstance- a bidding war can come out of noplace.

Same seller sold a very similar one in April for $305, i think it's just who's bidding.
