Posting Photos On The Net

Post by audiophile102 »

My Good friend Roger Merenkov, who owns Touch of Beauty Brass in Brookfield , Illinois obtained some really great phonographs from an estate yesterday. He intends to sell them whole- sale in the near future. He also obtained beautiful record cabinets for table top phonographs as well. I took some pictures, but he asked me not to post them on the web. He said that crooks have copied photos posted on sites like this one and then placed fake ads on ebay. :x I never heard of this and I was wondering if there was a way to prevent this fraud from happening. It makes me angry, because photos enhance a site like this one a lot.

At least one of our members "watermarks" his images so they cannot be used in scams. I don't know how to do this, but I wish I did... :)

On the rare occasion where I care, I just edit the photo in Paint and put a text box somewhere in the middle of the photo. You can do this kind of thing with virtually any photo editing software and enter any kind of text you think is appropriate. Sample attached.

Good idea, though sneaky thieves might be able to get around it! :D

Nice editing job, Bob. Of course, my sample was just that, a sample. You can of course be more creative and do things that are somewhat destructive to the photo to make it harder to reuse, but personally, so far that hasn't been necessary.

Your point is well taken though.

However when I increased the image size I could your edit but who would know to look for it. (I also knew where to look)

While it is a shame that a very small number of people have malicious or dishonest intentions, it seems silly to me not to share due to a slight possibility of mal use of photos. It is sort of like punishing the masses for the crimes of a handful. To put it in perspective, it would be like saying "Let's stop broadcasting shows on television because a few people will pirate them and resell them or use them for some illegal purpose". Just my opinion. Russie
