2015 Union Trip - Photos

Post by Jerry B. »

I'm ready to leave on my Union trip. My truck is full of diesel. The trip will cover around 5,000 miles and will take about 460 gallons of fuel. My truck get about 11mpg pulling this trailer when fully loaded. That may not seem like good fuel economy but my last big block gas truck got about 6 or 7mpg doing the same work. That's a huge improvement. I am hauling for myself and eight other collectors. I plan to stop in Boise, Denver, Kansas City, DeMoines, and then into Illinois and arrive at Union early afternoon on Thursday the 11th. A driver could make the 2500 mile trip in 2.5 days but it wouldn't be any fun. To make the trip itself fun we stop at antique shops, visit fellow collectors, and stop at tourist stops along the way. I've probably made this trip at least fifteen times and I've stopped a Yellowstone, Little Big Horn, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, the Bad Lands, Devils Tower, The Grand Canyon, the Presidential Libraries and museums of Lincoln, Hoover, Truman, and Eisenhower. On one return trip with DeeDee and her sister, we made a Laura Ingalls Wilder trip that started at Lake Pippen in along the Mississippi in Wisconsin and took us to several Wilder stops in Minnesota, and into South Dakota. I've been to fun small stops like the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD, the Roger Maris museum in ND, the Territorial Prison in Wyoming (I tried to leave Stan there!), and many others. This year I will be traveling with fellow phono nerds, Stan S. and Dan M. I'll try to post photos of the trip as we go. At least I'll start the trip with good intentions. Jerry Blais

The funny looking blue thing at the front of my trailer is a homemade bike rack. If there's anything that gets my phono nerd traveling companions cranky, it's when you tell them a nice old Schwinn is going in the trailer. Problem solved! Jerry

Jerry - That sounds like a lot of fun to me. I hope to be able to do similar trips at some point. Unfortunately my wife does not like long drives. :(

Safe travels and see you at Union.
