It seems so many members are finding great deals on machines on craigslist etc.
Machines for less than 300.00. I do not understand why there is little to no inventory of phonographs in NW Indiana and the Chicago area. It seems this area cares little about phonographs. When I do see phonographs in the area, its just the cabinet, a basket case or a alligatored VV-X floor model for $ 350.00 with inappropriate knobs and old unbuilt reproducer. I even offered a seller 150.00 for a Edison H-19 (asking price $300.00) with a bad stylus. She said I don't know much about it but its worth alot.....yadayada ....I tried to explain it will cost me at least 150.00 to get this thing running right, let alone reworking the dark alligatored mahogany.
I don't understand this market, NW Indiana has over 1 million people and Chicago and its suburbs are about 5 million.

Some aspects of what you are describing are true in my area too.
