How to clean a wood cabinet?

Post by Edisonfan »

I need some help? I have been told the Kotton Kleanser and GoJo are good for cleaning wood cabinets, but I can not find them anywhere besides online? Does anyone have a recommendation, besides these two products? Like, maybe Murphy's Oil Soap or Johnson's Paste Wax. Also, what should I use to clean the wood. This is for my Columbia Graphophone lid. Which is really dark, and would need a good cleaning. I just don't want to ruin the wood.

Thanks for any help?

I have heard of folks using Goop (the non-pumice kind) with about the same results of GoJo. You should be able to get it at any auto parts store or hardware store.

If you can't find GoJo (have you looked in auto supply stores?), Goop will work. Goop is carried at Horror Fright a/k/a Harbor Freight; there's got to be one near you! Make sure it's the white stuff, w/o abrasives (read contents label!).

I've never had much luck with Murphy's, but others may have better results.

(Slightly off topic ;) I'll bring you some Goop from Allentown in exchange for a bowl of seafood chowder at The Shamrock on US 15---best darn stuff I ever tasted!)

Murphy's is good for cleaning ordinary dirt and smudges off furniture, but I wouldn't expect it to do much on really thick crud- you'd need to get the finish pretty wet & that is a risk.

BTW- I cleaned my Sonora with GoJo out on the lawn- and the drip killed the grass.

I was advised not to use GoJo on wood, buy the guys at Auto Zone. Plus, they only carry the Pumice. Also, no one carries Goop around, here. I may try Howard's Restore a finish.

Try Wal-Mart for the non-pumice GoJo or Goop... or your friendly Mom & Pop auto parts store...

I have used non pumice GOJO for years on wood, and it does a great job removing dirt and crud. Those guy at the auto store don't know squat. They should stick with cars.
