I don't think you caused a riff. I think pretty much every collector I know uses either GOJO, Goop, Kotton Klenser, or New Life Masque (my new favorite!) which are all basically the same stuff with slightly different formulae. You aren't going to ruin any wood with any of these products, trust me. I used these products on all of my machines (including my Opera) with great results. They also do wonders on bed plates.Edisonfan wrote:I will just find my own method for cleaning this Cabinet!

Well, it did not work for me. I even used the 0000 grade steal wool. I used Goop, and all it did was make the wood smell nice.

I concur that they guys at the auto store were full of it. But don't get it there if they only have the kind with Pumice.
Or just order Kotton Klenser on-line directly (http://kottonklenser.com/) or from Amazon. Takes maybe 5 minutes and it will come straight to your door. A piece of cake!

This is what I'm using currently, it's actually made for furniture (though it's still more or less the same stuff as GoJo, etc.)

Leave it as is? It is original and it takes a very long time to get that much patina. I bought Kotten Cleanser off the web, but just can't make myself touch my cabinet. It is very dark and I know it would clean up nice. But then you have taken all that patina away and can't get it back.

The "patina" is dirt. There's a big difference between cleaning and refinishing. I don't personally like to have dirty phonographs or cabinets in my collection.Amberola wrote:Leave it as is?
