OK, I know this probably is one of the most common portables in Europe, especially this black version, but it is really great. I bought this HMV 101 a month or 2 ago, and I already posted some pics on Steve's board, now unfortunately taken down by those (insert curseword) people from ProBoards.
It sounds really great, a full, detailed sound, and a surprising amount of bass for a portable. My Columbia 109A sounded flat and tinny by comparison, and since that one was also not much to look at, I sold it.
I even think my 101 sounds a little better than my 130 with the 5B soundbox. (The 101 has, of course, a no 4). The 130 sounds very good, but a bit boxy, as if the orchestra is playing in a small box. The 101 has more depth, almost 3d.
I made a little video, but bear in mind that the built-in microphone from my digital camera doesn't do the sound of my 101 enough justice.

Bart,
Thanks for sharing. That's a great clip. There's a reason the 101 is one of the most common portable in Europe-'cause it's so dashed good!
I love mine, they're fantastic.
Regards,
John
