Please identify cabinet

George, I was told that the provenance that came with cabinet when originally obtained identified it as a Herzog. I wish I had a catalogue that illustrated the record cabinet, but unfortunately I don't.

Darn it. Thanks anyway, Dave - I was hoping to have a positive ID on those cabinets.

Unfortunately, when looking at any nice record cabinet, many collectors are inclined to call it a Herzog. I've seen Udells, Salters, and Rockfords called Herzogs. It's funny - - Herzog had a number of plain-Jane record cabinets, but collectors hardly ever call them "Herzogs."

I have all George and Tims books. They have taught me more than any one person could ever teach. All of mine have the first page written personally to me with Tims humorous personality. You guys have found some great cabinets. They are harder to find than the machines in my neck of the woods.

Has anyone ever seen this cabinet? Looks like a Herzog but seller doesn't say. I know this should be in the ebay thread, but thought it would work also?

Attached you will find the cabinet which is the subject of this thread. It is a Herzog. This scan is from a reprint of a wonderfully reproduced catalog available from Shawn O'rourke. The catalog shows many of the Herzog models of Cylinder and disc cabinets. I have had two of Oak versions of this cabinet in my day but never a mahogany. John

The seller had it for 50 years and has told it was for piano rolls.

James can we see an interior pic please..??. I'm sure Herzog made models for many applications...like, piano rolls, sheet music, etc....

This was refinish nicely long ago. The interior has been altered, the vertical record slats are gone ( I would have removed and saved them anyway). A stained pine shelf was added to original top shelf, to increase the depth. The door has two filled screw holes were the needle cup was.

It just may have been used to stow rolls 50 years ago. Heck, they could have said it was a bar and I'd just smile.

Oh,it has the pull out shelf on the side too.
