Unknown Portable...Foreign?

Post by startgroove »

Sadly, Lori and I were unable to visit Union this year. We decided to take a weekend trip down the coast to San Francisco to lookup a couple of collectors we had met online. On the way back, we stayed Saturday night in the wonderful little town of Grants Pass. Sunday morning we explored a few yard sales and found this little portable phonograph. It is about 7X7X11 inches and covered in a marbled green material. No markings that we could find, so it remains a mystery what its brand is. Any ideas? Russie and Lori Ofria

I have a Kompact camera box phonograph sold by Plaza Music Co back in the 1920's or 30's. Yours looks like it could be related. If so, it may have a Thoren's (Swiss) motor on the inside. If you google Kompact Plaza Music you will find images of its motor. Yours is different from mine, but this could be a start to finding out what you have.
