Victrola Lock Keys
I am wondering if Victor made different size locking keys. We're they are all different lengths or the same?

Re: Victrola Lock Keys
Victor made a few different designs (as shown in the link above), but the common "V" keys are all the same size as far as I know. I don't recall seeing varying lengths. There are reproductions of the V key, but I think they are a copy of an original, so those too are all the same length.Victrolacollector wrote:I am wondering if Victor made different size locking keys. Re: Victrola Lock Keys
The Schoolhouse model 8-7 Orthophonic used a slightly longer key. I never knew this until fellow forum member Vince (Mr. Grumpy) told me about it. When I got my 8-7 a couple of months ago, I tried a regular V key in the lid lock and it worked, so I thought he was mistaken, until he mentioned the bottom lock which locks the doors was inset deeper and the regular key wouldn't work - of course, he was correct. Ironically, just a few days before Union, an 8-7 key came up on eBay and I had to have it. I will post a photo of the 8-7 key next to a regular V key so you can see the difference after I'm home from work.

Here are the two keys. The 8-7 key isn't actually longer, but it doesn't have the circular decoration at the end like a regular V key.

I've learned something new. I don't think I've seen a key like the one on the right (or I wasn't paying attention, which is more likely).OrthoSean wrote:Here are the two keys. The 8-7 key isn't actually longer, but it doesn't have the circular decoration at the end like a regular V key.

Thanks for the info.
