Re: Marie Dressler "Singing"
Gosh, this is great! Thanks for posting it -- I'd never heard it before. It must be her "drunken" inflections here that bring to mind, for me, her wonderful performance as Marthy in Anna Christie some twenty years later. What a gal -- and what a cylinder!
A couple early "shots" in her honor:

Uncle Vanya, if you hadn't posted these very interesting and entertaining BA's, I wouldn't have known that they existed! I love old Marie Dressler films. How about Dangerous Females (1929!

Re: Marie Dressler "Singing"
Marie Dressler made more than just this one for Edison, I have "Marie Dressler's Working Girl Song" on two minute wax and the four minute wax Amberol of "He's My Soft Shell Crab On Toast", both also fun records! Sadly, both of my copies of "Crab" self destructed. It's a real shame that one never made it to BA, but "Rastus" did and I was lucky enough to get a nice clean copy of it some years back.

That style of mixed talking and "singing" seems a strange kind of performance to my ears. It also reminds me of Edison recordings by Irene Franklin, "I've Got the Mumps", being an example.
