Question about early Vic turntables--how to remove

Here are two photos I've grabbed off the web. One is a single-barrel motor in a Vic II. That's the motor in my machine. The other photo is of a two-barrel motor in a Vic III. That's what should be in mine. Note no cut-away in the oak brace to the left on the Vic II. But there is a cut-away section on a Vic III. The governor weights are the old stye that wrap around the springs. I'll take a photo of my flat crank this weekend. I don't think there is anything special about it. It works on this Vic II motor. I have a very early VV-VI with an early motor; it works on that. And I know that it works on a Vic I. I have the same crank with a round shaft as well that works on all three. Same crank as in the photo of the Vic II.

My memory is becoming faulty . The motor in my Vic III mentioned earlier was 2 springs in 2 barrels and not 2 springs in one barrel. It did use a slotted crank and was a somewhat early version-Serial #19168-the crank was not flat, but was slotted.

The spare motor that I have is 2 springs in 2 barrels, but with a more centered governor and is not the same . It was from an early IX (center crank and no feet-flat bottom), but maybe not early enough.

Here are two photos, one of the crank, the other of the crank escutcheon. I doubt that the crank is original, I mean, if the crank fits, turn it.

That crank looks suspect to me. You may want to read this link over. The Victor motor ID pages are great information.

I've never seen a flat crank on a Victor III. The flat cranks are generally found on Victrola IVs and VIs. An early III may take a slotted crank and they transitioned to a female crank but the crank itself is round not flat. It's correct that the early Victrolas sometimes used the Victor III/IV motor. At Union I parted out an early table VV-XI. It had the motor you need but with a slightly shorter spindle shaft. I sold the motor for $200. Jerry Blais

Here's a shot of the flat one plus another I have. Both work easily well on the "Vic III". They both screw in just the way you want them to. Thanks for the link. I see a 7(J) motor that Braker identifies as going in a Vic II. I think that's what I got.

If you take your time reading all this great information....I think you will see that Harold identifies 7(I) for a Vic II and 7(J) type(AM) for a Vic III or IV.

Yes, great material. I'm pretty sure that I have a Vic III case that someone later put in a Vic II motor. I suspect that the baseplate for both the IIs and the IIIs were quite similar such that the three bolt holes line up just right.
