Never heard of her until I found this record mixed in with all the others, including that Jelly Roll Morton record and a Jimmie Rodgers as well. She's great. Organ Grinder Blues and My Handy Man. Gee, I think there's a few double entendres in there, as the French might say. So I read about her on Wikipedia. Even Dylan (Bob) played with her. Unfortunately the record has a crack. Doesn't go all the way through and barely affects the sound, but still there it is. Disappointing.
Now I also got in that last group of records something by Papa Too Sweet. I'm not sure but I think he is aka Tampa Red. The songs, which I haven't listened to yet, are It's tight Like That and Big Fat Mama. It's on OKEH. I know It's Tight Like That from a Lead Belly recording.

Re: Found a Victoria Spivey record on OKEH
You know, I looked at eBay to see if any of her records were for sale on the Okeh label. There was one, and it was for more than $350. I find the same records on eBay with prices that are all over the place. I guess not really a reliable source. If I hadn't actually listened to a blues singer, I had usually heard of him or her by name. Spivey I had never heard of; totally new to me.
Some of you may have heard of Lightnin' Hopkins. Always one of my favorites. Lots of recordings on youtube. Back in the late 70s he came to New York to a club called Tramps off of Union Sq. I caught two of his sessions. He died of cancer a few months later. Will never forget it.
