Hello!
I'm desperately looking for a new (right) door for my Victrola VV-XI. The veneer on the top is terribly worn and it became impossible to dye the same color and getting the same texture as the rest of the Cabinet. That's why I'm looking for a replacement door. It is not like the others VV-XI models, there's no place carved into the door to insert the hinges. They screw directly on the side of the door. Someone could help me?
Thanks!

Your best bet for original replacement cabinet parts is George Vollema. He's in the Links section of the Forum. Isn't he the Great Lakes Phonograph Company? Jerry B.

Good Luck!

Re: WANTED: Victrola VV-XI upper right door
You have there what I believe is the last variation of the "medallion corner" cabinet style, with the horn doors extending right to the corner posts; on earlier models, the doors were about a 1" more narrow. The wider doors on yours accommodate a larger horn. What's the serial number on yours? Mine is VV-XI 370333G (1917).Sohny wrote:Hello!

BTW, the horn door hinges on my XI are let in to the door edges, but not the frame! The hinge recesses in the doors are deep enough to accept their surface-mounted mates and allow the doors to close flush with the cabinet front. Looks like your cabinet is the reverse (flush-mounted to doors, surface mounted to frames)!

Is the damage to the door on the actual wood/veneer? Or is the damage in the shellac finish that lies on top of the wood?

Yes, the fine part glued on the wood. You call it shellac? It's a kind of plywood...Oceangoer1 wrote:Is the damage to the door on the actual wood/veneer? Or is the damage in the shellac finish that lies on top of the wood?

Yes, there's countersunk hinges on the cabinet, but not on the doors.
My serial number is VV-XI 47424 C, it's a canadian version, made in Montreal in 1915.

Sohny, Is the finish on your Victrola original? If you don't know, could you post a photo of the inside of the lid. Generally the area inside the cabinet was better protected from sunlight and other damaging elements which altered the outside finish.
If you are hoping the get a replacement door that matches the finish of your machine? it will be very very difficult to find another door with the exact finish and wood grain pattern.
