Would Like to Locate Collector - Ideal No. 2 French Machine

Post by GeorgeDixon »

Need various parts for this machine and would like to connect
with other owners to identify variances between early models of no. 2, including Bonne Presse variant.

My understanding is that Bonne Presse manufactured the Ideal phonograph. If you post a pic of the machine you are referencing, it would make the answer to your question somewhat easier?

A few days ago my auction sniper program was blocked by ebay when I bid on this model - which is about the last one I needed to complete the series. I was somewhat annoyed!

The prior model was the same, just with a brass bedplate

This is a Zenith No. 2, which is similar, but earlier than the Ideal (Bonne Presse) No. 2, which has the nickel plated brass bedplate. This is the machine for which I need certain parts (sorry, I was the lucky bidder). I was able to locate some parts, but still am short the crank and concert mandrel among other things.

Its my understanding that the no. 1 is similar to a Columbia B with a Bonne Presse tag, reversible in own carrying case. There are at least a couple versions of No. 2, although the Bonne Presse version has the brass bedplate. No. 3 similar but a bit larger, all nickel plated and has speed control.

I use an online sniping service that has never failed me - I've used it for 3 or 4 years now. Basic service is free and the recommended premium service is only $6 per year. The premium service submits your bids from two separate servers located in different parts of the country - that redundancy assures there is never downtime. You don't have to install anything on your computer, just run it from a web browser wherever you are; I do it from a smart phone. Learn more and subscribe at http://www.gixen.com

[BVH]: We have nearly completed our work on this example.
Metal bedplate sent to Jalal Aro of La Phonogalerie in Paris to restore to original.
More photos to follow.

Actively still looking for rare European examples.
Please contact me with details.
