Vulcan Cylinder records made this custom cylinder of my late and beloved Uncle Vinson telling a story about his growing up during the Great Depression. They were very poor and so he had a trap line that he would check on his way to school to catch small animals to sell their pelts to make a small income for the family. He would often trap a skunk which he would have to retrieve on his way to school. As you can imagine a very funny story. He was a great storyteller. I had caught him telling this story on video camera on Christmas in 2010 before he passed away in 2011. I isolated and edited the audio track down to a 4 minute segment and sent it to Vulcan records to make into this custom cylinder. It turned out fantastic. I had many copies made and I gave a copy of this cylinder along with a small Edison Amberola 30 (for playback) to my parents, sister, brother, children and another uncle as a Christmas gift 1 ½ years ago. (Fortunately Stanton's auction had a small hord of relatively inexpensive Edison Amberola 30's for sale at their fall auction that year.) It was a hugely successful Christmas gift and a great remembrance of my beloved uncle and his wonderful storytelling. Vulcan records was fantastic and I can't thank them enough for making this possible and helping me through the process. Hands down this is the most cherished record in my collection. More so than any of my 5" Berliners, Pink Lamberts, or Stollwerck records.

That is a very nice story and will no doubt be cherished by your family.Thank you that and for hearing good stuff about Vulcan. Thanks MLund2020.

There are three tunes apparently recorded by Edison of the Georgia Melodians which, as far as I can tell, were never made into records and sold, yet the tunes are available of those on a compilation CD and I wondered where they got them and I suppose Vulcan could do that but I know it would be expensive so I will probably just settle for the CD. But the question remains. Where did they get the recordings? I can find nothing.
Thanks.

that's a great story. Vulcan is outstanding. I have 5-6 of their 'new' recordings, a few which are not reproductions. Great staff, and very good quality. Thanks for sharing! Ive been recording my own, Vulcans set up is certainly far superior.

I would echo N2wheelies comments.

Vulcan give excellent service, they manufacture our CLPGS cylinders, and are very nice people to deal with. If you need custom-made cylinders, they are the people to go to.
