Does anyone know if there is a replacement sandpaper made to fit reamers or can you use a generic type of paper ? Not sure what grit, after several years of use paper could use renewing.
Thanks Eric

Re: Cylinder record reamer
Generic sandpaper will work. IIRC, it is around 100-150 grit. I've had my reamer for about 20 years and it is still fine. I use a dry toothbrush to clean the plaster off.

Instead of sandpaper, try to use some emery cloth. It will probably last much longer.

Re: Cylinder record reamer
I had a machinist make my reamer, and he told me he used Carborundum? as the sanding surface. I don't remember the grit, but could identify it if I saw it, or better yet, felt it. Anyway, for over 20 years, I've been running it under a warm tapwater flow, and it's still got every bit of grit as it originally did! The adhesive he used may have had Marine applications, because not even a tiny corner of it has lifted over the years.

I clean mine with an old nailbrush, and as with the reaming process itself I do it outside on a calm day.
I would be reluctant to use water in case it affected the adhesive on the reverse of the sandpaper.

Buy a 4" wide sandpaper belt used for belt sanders. The sandpaper is cloth backed and can be cut into ½" strips to glue back onto the reamer... very durable.

Re: Cylinder record reamer
I purchased some from this seller on eBay. They last a long time. I wipe down my reamer with rubbing alcohol before applying the new strips in order to get the plaster dust off and get good adhesion: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-pre-cut-sel ... 4ae206b273
I use a toothbrush to clean the sandpaper between reamings.
