Edison Banner Standard Unique?

I just picked up an Edison Banner Standard with Repeater attachment. I know this is not unique, but as I was cleaning it, I noticed a key lock mechanism near the crank hole. It looks like the lock would lock the lid when it is on top and the clasp fastened. Any thoughts about this. I will probably put this on the Yankee Trader.

That repeater sure looks like those used on ICS machines... the lock looks like those used on desks / file cabinets / boxes around the turn of the 20th century.

Are there four small nail holes above the bottom moulding in the center, front ?

It looks like a very neat installation. Have you tried it out? I'm having a little trouble picturing how it would work with the lid in place. Interesting.

It's certainly a model B (tall case): the external speed control and repeater definitely say ICS to me. I also wonder at the lack of an identifying plaque below the banner decal.

As for the lock: might this machine have been used in a school setting, where someone had modified it to prevent unauthorized access? It would have to act somehow upon the tab of the lid: is the lid there, and has there been any modification of the tab?

It appears to me that the bolt of the key-lock rises vertically, and engages with the slot cut-into the original Edison lock tab.

This would prevent the lock-lever being un-fastened on the crank=side, and thus the lid could be removed only by authorized personnel...

- So the lid clip would slide past the lock mechanism on the inside. I think I get it it now. Those clearances look pretty close. To quote Gary Larson: "It was late and I was tired".

I have seen other machines that have the ICS type equipment without the tag on front. Undoubtedly some of those were simply case swaps, but I wonder if the music study machines (Siegel-Myers) ever had tags? Neat machine...

Yes, this was an ICA machine, I think. There are holes below the decal where the ICA tag probably was. I have seen similar machines before, but never with the locking mechanism. I don't have the key for it. The usual clamp mechanism on the case has been modified slightly so the lock mech. will work. If anyone is interested, I can deliver it to the APS show in a couple of weeks. I'll put it on the Yankee Trader soon or call me if interested.
