A Real Talent!

Post by Raphael »

Recently we had a birthday party for my son and about 25 family and friends attended. One of my wife's friends brought her 19-year old daughter along and asked us if she could be allowed to sing. After discussing with her what she preferred, she mentioned that she is studying music in college and opera is her main interest. Just so happens I had an instrumental version of "O Mio Babbino Caro" (Oh, My Adoring Father") from Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi". So, half way through the party, on my cue, she stood up and belted out the tune, without rehearsing, sheet music, or anything. (The song is about a daughter imploring her beloved father to allow her to marry the man she loves, as opposed to the family's selection). I was playing the music on my Wurltizer 1080 jukebox, and she literally brought tears to people's eyes.

Yesterday I took delivery of a Victrola XVIII and I asked her to come over for a recording session. We made videos of her with the Wurlitzer 1080 and 71, and finally the XVIII, which was actually so loud that I had to keep the speaker doors closed so it would not overpower her voice. Here is the first draft, which my son is working on editing, but as he is very busy in his job may take him a while to get around to it.

This young lady has such poise and talent, I have no doubt that one day she will be on stage at the Met.

A "Tone-Test" of sorts! Wonderful, what a beautiful voice she has. :)

Ronnie, she is a friend of the family, not related to me. I've never been mistaken for Brad Pitt, and can't sing a note, either.

What a stunning young lady. So good to know there are still some young folks that care about this music and have the talent and drive to become accomplished performing it. Thanks for introducing us to this talented young lady.

Only 19, sings like an angel, and has the poise few people I know (of any age) possess. And she has an identical twin sister, also a singer, who is just as talented.

Here's another video:
