A Great Find
In a shop in my town I found an oak cabinet. At first glance I thought it was for sheet music, but when I opened the door I discovered it was for cylinder records.I told the owner of the shop that it's used to hold cylinder records. She asked,"What's a cylinder record?"She looked it up on her tablet where she saw pictures of cylinders. She had $49 on the cabinet, but she let me have it for $30!
The cabinet's dark oak,and the pegs and two of the trays are missing.I plan on refinishing it.I got it yesterday.I put my Triumph on it temporarily just to get an idea. That was a GREAT find!!

Good for you!
It is pretty sad that even people who run antique businesses today don't even know what a cylinder record is.
Can you post a picture for us?

Re: A Great Find
Well, the lack of knowledge cylinder cabinet knowledge is kind of understandable unless they know a phonograph collector that kind of asks the dealer to watch for that stuff. They are a little bit on the obscure side of things in that business. I had a dealer awhile back ask me if I thought a set of dishes she bought was very old. I looked at the bottom and told her that "Microwave Safe" should tell her something. And then she looked at me and asked "What?" Doubt she will be in business long....

This morning I cleaned my cabinet with Feed and Wax.I also found out when I turned it over on its side that it was made by Larkin.edisonplayer PS:The store where I found my cylinder record cabinet wasn't an antique shop,it was for home décor. So,obviously they wouldn't recognize what it's truly for.

I talked to Tim Fabrizio yesterday and told him about my cabinet. He said he'd tell me about a man who makes pegs for cylinder cabinets. Also,I'd like to have a couple replacement trays made.edisonplayer
