that had to be boxed, too, no?
looks repairable, but that definitely shouldn't have happened.

Good grief. One would think the box was sort of crushed to do that damage.

Man, I hate dealing with people like that. Once they have your money, they just don't care how the stuff arrives. If that was an eBay seller, please tell us who it is so that we can avoid him like the plague.

Re: another horn ruined in shipping
How much did you pay for shipping? I would expect to pay over $100 to send a morning glory horn from Oregon to New York and perhaps more. That horn looks suitable for a Edison Home. To provide adequate protection you need a carton several inches larger than the length and width of the horn. A carton for that horn needs to be huge. Any buyer that pays a small amount for shipping and hopes for the best is part of the problem. Please understand that I know nothing of the particulars of this transaction and perhaps these suggestions and expectations were ignored.
We, as collectors, have a responsibility to preserve and protect the objects that we collect. That doesn't start when we get possession of an item. The guy that buys a horn at a garage sale and then puts it on ebay has no knowledge of safe shipping. He may think he's doing a good and careful job of packing but he may be creating a disaster. If a collector buys an item and the estimated ebay shipping estimate is only a fraction of the amount we know to be the actual cost, we have a responsibility to point that out to the seller and expect to pay a reasonable and higher amount as well as giving specific packing suggestions.
OK, I'm off the pulpit now and hope this was done for this transaction.

Yea but the seller has essentially done the equivalent of mailing a dozen eggs in an envelope. Anybody should know better.gramophone78 wrote:That may explain a lot...n2wheelies wrote:( my paypal message was please pack carefully, now he is saying I broke the tip off unpacking....
