Red "45ish" style Edison DD Blanks on CL Chicago

Post by Schlick »

I have never seen these before - nor to I recall a recorder on which they'd work.

Does anyone have a link or a picture of the recorder?

These are no big deal and worth very little.

There is a renewed interest in both cylinder and disc recordings particularly with our young collectors. These particular discs represent the end of the era for the Edison name and for that reason are quite interesting. I would be interested in knowing more about the technology and quality of the recordings. Can anyone make a positive contribution? Jerry Blais

Thank you both for the information!

I find it very interesting that in the '50s they would mark these "Edison Diamond Disc" while they clearly had no similarity to the earlier Diamond Disc phonographs.

(And I see, now, I could have done a bit more research, i.e. wikipedia!)

Thanks again!

I find it interesting to see the "Thomas Edison" arching signature on the front of the machine... carrying a bit of the old "brand" into the Atomic Age....

I agree with Jerry, that while these sorts of things might not be of great interest ( or value ) to our general body, they are artifacts of a by-gone era...

I have a disc dictation machine from the '50's that records on a floppy, transparent blue disc with a "sprocket-tooth" hole in the center... I think the name "Gray" is somewhere in the name ( haven't seen it in 35 years or so...)

Also have a dictabelt machine somewhere in the garage... souvenir from a dumpster-dive at a 1930's office bldg.

Here is a recent eBay auction lot. This is a group of 79 blanks, sold for 'best offer under $75'.
