phonogfp wrote:The "lip or no lip" characteristic is almost certainly a function of which cabinet manufacturer(s) were involved. I would be very interested in a comparison of Cabinet Factory numbers among these cabinets. Of course, with eBay and/or Craigslist machines, this will be difficult (if not impossible in some cases).

It should also be pointed out that these 1A/1B Amberola/A/B 250 Disc cabinets are POOLEY-style cabinets. The earlier Weber-style cabinets had no lip (as seen in the photo on page 1 of this thread). I'm aware of at least two manufacturers of Pooley-style cabinets: The Pooley Furniture Company and Brunswick. I expect there were others, but I cannot confirm that. Finding three or more different Cabinet Factory numbers on the stickers in Pooley-style cabinets would be proof that there were more than two suppliers of those Pooley-style cabinets.

This is good stuff. :)

Thanks George!

This information will certainly help me to check a little more thoroughly for these more subtle hints. :)

I'll have to look through the patents, too.

This IS good stuff. :geek:

OK so 1) my "Ghosting" is a little larger than the Emblem, but not by much. It looks like 5 ¾ by 3 ¾ but I also noticed it has indentation on the left and right side, much like the Amberola emblem. 2) I can't find any cabinet factory #

What I did find, which I assumed is gunk from 100 years but will share anyway. :D and a notch under the gunk along with my 2 piece bedplate. One piece runs along the back with the tone arm. I believe that's typical of these machines. The other is U shaped and lifts out of the cabinet if the breaking mech and tone arm lifting gear wasn't in the way  This would easily open the cabinet as the motor and bedplate are secured to the sides of the cabinet. I don't know if this is typical of all DD's (I believe it is) which would allow for easy swapping......right :)

Gunk above the cut out. I'm clueless on the reason for cut out. Cut out is 13" from the back.

Underneath view of cut out.Why have it if the piece lifts out? Notice the beautiful yellow paint speckles.

Back piece removed, the other 3 sides (1 piece) lift out easily if not for break and tone arm lifting mech(cut out is slightly behind right side of removed piece.
