Preserving/Coating Labels, Stickers, etc. ?

Post by Oceangoer1 »

I have a couple of patent stickers that I want to protect. One is a patent list on a Columbia (on the horn) and one is an Edison model description type sticker (in the inside of the cabinet). They are very brittle and dry. Is there something you can coat them with to make sure they don't break and fall apart?

I have heard of painting over them with shellac? This is the kind of sticker I'm talking about

If it has existed this long without any kind of protection I'd say it's pretty safe as-is. Just don't handle it carelessly. The label you show could be covered with a clear piece of plastic, held in place with small pin points, such as you see used to indicate a location on a map. I would be afraid that coating a label like that with anything, would soak it through making it look semi-transparent and odd.
