I recently purchased a nice VV-XI Oak Floor Model. Appears to be original finish very light oak on in side areas which of course were always protected. Does not appear to be shellac or varnish. It is not fumed oak. Does any one know how this modelin oak use to leave the factory in 1915-16? Were the oak cabinets simply stained and then waxed with paste or bees wax? Or perhaps one light coat of shellac that for the most part was absorbed by the wood?
Outside has little or no original finish left basically bare wood on sides and darked wood on front and top. Cleaned a test area with lemon oil followed by bees wax. Looks reasonable, but concerned may be going down an undesirable path.
Any experts oak Victrola cabinets with advise for making them look fresher without doing harm?
