Holes in Exhibition Reproducer

There are two holes on the sides of the front plate of the reproducer. Does anyone know why they are there? They appear to be opposite each other.

Some clowns experiment . Now it's just ruined.... . Could they have made the holes any cruder..??? .

There were add-on little handles that some people added to facilitate lifting the sound-box and setting it down on the record. I wonder if this Exhibition had one of those at one time?
