I have been trying to tweak the "Lyric" reproducer on my BF, but I still find the sound quite muffled.
Originally, I had sent it to APSCO for rebuilding and a stylus: after a long while I got it back, but they had made the stylus link too long, so that it was not contacting the cylinder properly. Also, they had replaced the original mica diaphragm (which was in good condition) with a metal one. I hope I can get that back someday.
Anyway, I have had to replace both the link and the spring (which got badly bent during my efforts); I have tried to get it into decent condition, but its performance is still disappointing. Whom would you recommend to restore it to optimal performance?
(Note: I also am trying to get the governor balanced, but have been frustrated by that one screw that won't budge [of course]. At present, it is soaking in penetrating oil for a couple of days; but if it still proves recalcitrant, I may have to send it off to a pro as well).

I would send the reproducer to Steve Medved. He is the best. He did one of mine.

Slight update: After marinating the end of the governor in penetrating oil for a couple of days, and after much straining, tapping, and cursing, that screw finally moved.
At least the governor is in relative balance again.
