Thank you Gentleman. I should have inspected this better with a loupe. There is a very small (angled) hole through the blob of resin. So, "fine" or "soft" tone needles are all you can use.

Tomorrow I will make a small video. However, I would not expect too much from this gimmick... .

I guess the needle through the blob is s snug fit, to prevent (unwanted) buzzing ?

Well, I tried a test using my Victrola XVII and I certainly could not hear any "real" difference. Mind you, I did not notice any impediments caused by this attachment.

Just want to add another ad from 1914 that shows a "fiber needle" version was also made available.
