Vicsonia stylus replacements - Bruce Diamonds

Post by Victrolacollector »

I have been curious, I recently purchased a Viscsonia adapter on the forum. The adapter plays Edison DD's on a Victor. We know these diamond points are not permanent, and may need changed in the future. In the event it needs changed at some point, would a New Bruce Diamond work in this reproducer?

I have one of these reproducers. If the diamond is good, there is no reason why they can't last like an Edison diamond, as long as they are not mishandled.

In my experience original diamonds may appear not to be leaving any noticeable issues on the record, but the sound can be effected due to years of play. I had several original diamonds I thought were fine, but when obtained another stylus which was new I realized the original diamond was not playing as clearly as it might have. I don't think anything such as a stylus is going to last forever. If the 1 or 2 gms of pressure a modern turntable produces playing a vinyl record causes a diamond point to need occasional replacement then how much wear would a heavy weight like the edison produce?

I would send Steven Medved a note is your curious about the possible switch of diamonds. [email protected]

Hi,
I agree with Larry 100% and I just the other day said the same thing regarding a similar topic to some one with an Ultona.

I have one of these and they are nothing like a real Edison reproducer. I wouldn't pour any money into it myself.

One point that I want to mention when playing these reproducers: It is OK to occasionally play an Edison DD on your open horn Victor. The diamond point rides the groove like a conventional record. The Edison uses a feedscrew. If DD's are played a lot on a Victor, the record will get very worn. To me, playing a DD on the Victor is really a novelty to have an "Outside Horn Edison DD player".

I guess this is why we have both a Edison and Victor in our collections playing each record on the proper machine. Sounds like there really is no substitute.

I've used a modified Cheney vertical reproducer with a jewel point to play diamond discs on my Credenza- the results are very nice.
