Gold Plated Berliner

Post by Raphael »

I have recently acquired this unusual machine, the same one as featured on pages 62 & 63 in the book "Discovering Antique Phonographs 1877-1929" by Tim Fabrizio and George Paul.

Does anybody have any historical information relating to this machine, other than what was mentioned in the book? Were others of this model made?

thanks,
Raphael

that horn.... is that really a Victor horn?
It is very beautiful regardless, a nice example.
Model tag is unique. I wonder if from factory or from factory to management of the company..?

I don't know about this particular machine but I can tell you about a gold plated Edison Gem. Here in Toronto Ontario we had a very prosperous record shop in the 60's called Sam the Record Man. To honour the founder, the family had one of our early CAPS members, Bill Tarling completely dissemble an Edison Gem, gold plate it, reassemble and present to their father as a gift.
For the man who has everything.

Raphael,

I remember reading long ago of a Gold Plated Berliner which was presented at the opening of "THE DOG AND TRUMPET".

Could this be that machine?
